The long wait of the Dominican Catholic School family for the construction of its gymnasium is now over. Finally, it has been completed and now proudly stood at its Yigo campus. The Rite of Blessing of the Veritas Hall, DCS’ new gymnasium/auditorium was presided by His Excellency, Most Rev. Michael J. Byrnes last June 1, 2018. He was asssisted by Rev. Fr. Danny Ferrandiz, pastor of Santa Bernadita Parish. The blessing was attended by Dominican sisters on Guam, DCS teachers and staff, some students and parents, Dominican laity, friends and benefactors of the school. Office of Catholic Education Superintendent Richard Alvia and other teachers and administrators from other Guam catholic schools also joined the Dominican community. Yigo Mayor Rudy Matanane likewise graced the occasion.
The gathering was made special by the presence of their Provincial Prioress, Sr. Cecilia Hsu, OP based in Taiwan who was on the island for her canonical visit to the three Dominican communities from May 26 – June 4, 2018. She was accompanied by two other sisters from Taiwan, Sr. Loida Lim, OP, provincial secretary and Sr. Anita Ong, OP, assistant provincial treasurer. A thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration was celebrated by His Excellency, Most Rev. Michael J. Byrnes and concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Danny Ferrandiz after the blessing followed by a simple fellowship lunch at the school cafeteria.
DCS will forever be grateful to the Prioress and her Council of the Province of St. Vincent Ferrer (Taiwan) for their kindness and generosity to fund the project and likewise to all the parents, guardians, students, teachers, and benefactors who prayed, supported and collaborated together in order for this dream become a reality. Deo Gratias! (Thanks be to God!)
