NEWS RELEASE

Catholic schools will not have classes Monday upon anticipated declaration of COR 2 tonight

With the island anticipated to be placed on Condition of Readiness (COR) 2 by 8 tonight due to an impending storm, Archdiocese of Agaña schools will cancel classes on Monday, May 22.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero anticipates placing Guam in Condition of Readiness (COR) 2 at 8 this evening, Joint Information Center (JIC) officials announced this afternoon. “At COR2, the Government of Guam, with the exception of essential services, will not be operational and will remain closed until COR 4 is announced. Residents are strongly advised to use this time to prepare,” emergency officials said in a news advisory.

Officials continue to monitor the developing system which has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Mawar. JIC is also in communication with the Archdiocese of Agaña’s (AOA) Communication Office.

Catholic schools follow the AOA Catholic School Policy which states:

TYPHOON DISMISSAL

When Typhoon Condition of Readiness 2 (COR 2) is declared by the Governor of Guam, classes will be suspended, and students sent home. Protocols for securing buildings will be followed according to guidelines established by each school.

When GovGuam and public schools close with COR 2, archdiocese Catholic schools are to close as well.
