September 8 is a big day for the Dominican Catholic School community. It is the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Traditionally, there is a celebration of the Holy Mass and followed by a floral offering to the image of the Blessed Mother. Due to the lockdown, the school had its virtual prayer services during their Christian Living (Theology) classes. Students joined in offering hymns and prayers to honor her and for their personal intentions. Special prayers were offered for the end of the Covid19 pandemic and for all those with the virus and for the safety and protection of everyone and most especially the health care workers and front liners.
They were also asked to make handmade birthday cards that they offered to the image of Mother Mary in their family altars. The virtual celebration may not have the same festive mood as what the school used to do annually, but the devotion of each Dominican to the Blessed Mother was present and would be always present.
Happy Birthday, Mother Mary! pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death…
